You are right. It was the German military theorist and General Von Clausewitz said, "war is a continuation of state policy by other means." That was back in the 19th century, still rings true today. I also agree about Wayne David, sooner he is kicked out of office the better.

Maybe we'll re elect him because the alternative seems even more vile? I know I wont even be voting. We have the same problems we had under the Cons and I think anyone who thinks things will change under there rule, sorry, leadership, is living in a dreamland.

Alan, I couldn't agree with you more - you wake up feeling bright and sunny ... look at the papers and want to slit your wrists, especially when you see a lovely picture of Gordon like you have in your blog! LOL

The current Government is appalling but unfortunately we have bred a nation of apathy ... no one cares ... and then when it all goes "belly up" they moan ... why don't people put their money where their mouth is? I don't know how we have managed to degenerate to a nation like this from an empire that we once were ... a mystery.

I have to say that I'm not too keen on the Conservatives either, ... they seem to be full of hot air, but a change in any direction would be good. Why don't more people actually vote? Don't they realise that it is a right that they have and that a lot of people died getting it? Don't they understand that if they don't vote, then they can't complain when they don't agree with what the powers that be are doing to their lives.

Now, I think I'll go into a dark corner and sulk! LOL

Thanks.

Perhaps you should have turned off the stop cock, if you turn off the water then no extra damage would have been caused, hence - no real emergency. Failing that - how about bowl under the leaky pipe? I'm with the same company and am very happy with the efficient service they provide. However, I do not have plumbing and drains cover which this would come under. Maybe you should double check...

Agree with you that the UK defence posture is not fit for purpose. Far from it. Too focussed on nuclear weapons and playing mini-me to US 'expeditionary' policies. And badly, badly managed by British governments. If Europe had the A400M up and running, we'd have been there soonest. 18th & 19th Century naval strategies are not feasible or affordable today. Earthquakes and tsunamis can happen anytime, anywhere.

Perhaps if the navy had a few more ships and better funding they could afford to keep a frigate stationed in every sea between Portsmouth and the ends of the earth. Unfortunately at the moment only the army is being favoured with what little extra money this government is prepared to spend on defence. No doubt when we face a future maritime threat, as surely we will, the government will be trying to play catch up with the demand for ships in the same way as there is now a mad scramble for helicopters. Given that it takes five years to build a ship we could find ourselves in trouble. It will of course be a case of too little too late again.
