I was really pleased when I saw this photo in The Times earlier this week, it shows what great progress we have made as a country in recent years. And that our military are also catching up.
The pohto would definitely not have been possible during my time of service in the Army as the Brigade of Guards was then almost exclusively white. Whilst not overtly racist there was always slow progress toward an all inclusive recruitment mix.
Progress has been slow and it has to be noted that the Guardsman in the photo, Gdsmn Jatenderpal Singh Bhullar, 25, a Scots Guardsman, is the first Seikh to mount guard at Buckingham Palace.
But slow or not, progress is progress and is to be welcomed.
