It’s a simple question – at a time when politics in Britain has never had such an active level of support, and equally such a level of apathy, why, oh why has the television coverage of Assembly proceedings in Cardiff ended?

How can those who talk about gaining greater engagement expect that to happen when the tele-box does not support the communication? How will enthusiasts (Bloggers and Twitterers in particular) get their story?

This is a poor day for democracy in Wales. Or am I wrong?

Alan, doedd prin neb yn ei wylio ac mae ei dynnu oddi ar S4C yn golygu y gall S4C ddatblygu mwy o gynulleidfa Gymraeg nawr oherwydd dim ond hyn a hyn o gynulleidfa fydde yna i fanion bwyllgorau'r Cynulliad. Mae'r darlledu yn parhau i ddigwydd, mwy nag oedd ar S4C dwi'n meddwl, ar wefan y BBC. Maen siwr y dylai'r BBC wedi marchnata hynny yn well cofia.

Cytuno'n llwyr bod yn ddiwrnod gwael i ddemocratiaeth. A dyw amddiffyniad y BBC ddim yn dal dwr sef eu bod yn darparu gwasanaeth arlein yn lle hynny. Beth am y 50%+ o bobologaeth Cymru sydd heb fynediad i fand llydan, a'r miloedd sydd heb gyfrifiadur o gwbl. Dyw'r ffaith nad oedd llawer yn ei wylio ddim yn rheswm i'w ddileu. Dyna beth yw pwrpas darlledu cyhoeddus – darparu gwasanaeth lle mae'r farchnad yn methu gwneud hynny. O ddefnyddio'r un ddadl a Rhys Llwyd does dim rheswm i gael S4C o gwbl.
A bad day for Welsh democracy. And the BBC's defence that it is providing a new online service doesn't wash. What about the 50%+ in Wales without access to broadband and the thousands without a computer even. And the fact that the audiences were small is not a reason for getting rid of the service. That is what public servie broadcasting is all about – providing a service where the market cannot provide. By using Rhys LLwyd's argument there is no justification for the existence of S4C at all .

Personally I'd rather see the channel being used to beam Welsh children's programs to thousands of Welsh homes rather than live Senedd to hundreds (dozens even at times?) of Welsh suburbia. In an ideal World we should have a Welsh BBC Parliament channel (or perhaps just a'n interactive option on the current BBC Parliament channel so you can choose either Westminster, Senedd, Hollyroad or Stormont via red button). But until that day I think it's better for the Welsh language to use S4C for other programmes and let the BBC sort it's self out in the mean time. Because one must remember that we have many more English channels in Wales so why should the sole Welsh channel be bogged down with the Senedd broadcasting as if Welsh democracy is only of interest to Welsh speakers?

On a personal level i can now watch Senedd becuase there's no digital signal where i live but broadband has been here for a number of years.
