America and Britain are carrying the bulk of the weight in Afghanistan,

be5America the greatest burden without doubt. Other countries claim to be committed there as well but they don’t understand the difference between being committed and involved. Let me explain the difference to them:

When you look at your plate of bacon and eggs in the morning you’ve got involvement from a chicken and also from a pig. But it’s only the pig that’s committed and has given its life to be there.

Many NATO countries are only involved in Afghanistan, sending troops to safe areas, some not allowed to operate at night, some not allowed to leave Kabul. They clearly are involved and only involved.

Other countries, notably America, Britain and Canada as well as the Afghan National Army itself are committed: they are prepared to make sacrifices and have done so. Their commitment is beyond question.

It’s now time for nations that are involved to stop thinking they are doing some good and to get off the pot and become committed to creating peace and stability in that country. The NATO summit was not successful in getting commitment, only a poor level of sustained involvement. And of course photo opportunities.
